Topic & Standards: Promoting an active lifestyle

The topic of my lesson plan will be promoting an active and healthy lifestyle for sixth graders. The lesson will include having students identify and participate in activities that could contribute to a healthy lifestyle outside of the classroom. For example, swimming, running, basketball, etc. Students will participate in an activity of their choice, set personal goals, and keep track of their progress over the course of a month. Students will create a power point presentation that documents their own personal journey, which will be presented at the end of the month. Students will also research their chosen activity using the internet and will include these findings in their power point presentation. The activities described in this lesson will meet sixth grade Language Arts Standard 7: Oral Communication, and sixth through eighth grade Physical Education Standard 3: Active Lifestyle. The Technology Standards that will be addressed include using “Technology productivity tools” and “Technology communications tools.”
